Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most frequent and common functional gastrointestinal disorder that has aetiopathogenesis multifactorial. Several biomarkers have been tested in the search for a reliable and specific biomarkers, but there is no specific biomarkers for IBS. The purpose of this study was to evaluate two different biomarkers putative pathways of pathogenesis of IBS: monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) and nitrotyrosine, in order to establish their role as potential biomarkers.
We enrolled 42 consecutive patients diagnosed with IBS by Rome III criteria and 35 healthy controls, respectively. serum concentration of two biomarkers (MCP-1 and nitrotyrosine) is determined by using a commercial ELISA kit.
serum levels of MCP-1 were not statistically significantly higher in IBS patients than the control group (204 ± 130 vs 174 ± 73 pg / ml; P = 0.311). nitrotyrosine levels were statistically significantly lowered in IBS patients than the control group (30 ± 12 vs 353 ± 14 nM; P = 0.050).
MCP-1 levels were higher in patients with the metabolic syndrome compared IBS IBS patients without metabolic syndrome (239 ± 153 vs 168 ± 120 pg / ml; P = 0.948) and in control with the metabolic syndrome (174 ± 56 pg / ml). MCP-1 serum levels were statistically significantly higher in IBS patients with the metabolic syndrome compared with controls (239 ± 153 vs 157 ± 89 pg / ml; P = 0.037), showing several factors involved, especially diet and its association with metabolic syndrome, and it shows that MCP-1 may be a marker of subclinical atherosclerosis.

Association Between monocytes chemotactic Protein one Variants and Age-Related Macular Degeneration Onset between the Chinese People
BACKGROUND We assessed the potential relationship between monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (MCP-1) variant (rs1024611 and rs3760396) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) vulnerability among the Han Chinese.
MATERIALS AND METHODS Our study included 129 patients with AMD and 131 healthy controls. Genotyping for MCP-1 variants carried out in two groups, and the distribution of genotypes and alleles between groups by analysis examined χ². odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) represents the potential of the relationship between MCP-1 variant and the risk of AMD. Linkage disequilibrium polymorphism detected using Haploview.
RESULTS Significant differences in the distribution of genotypes of rs1024611 were detected between the two groups, and homozygous carriers with the GG genotype had a higher incidence of AMD (P <0.05, OR = 2.650, 95% CI = 1.127 to 6.231). The rs1024611 G allele frequency was significantly higher in patients with AMD, showed that the allele G promotes AMD onset (P <0.05, OR = 1.447, 95% CI = 1.013 to 2.068). Strong linkage disequilibrium was found between rs1024611 and rs3760396, and Ars1024611-Crs3760396 haplotype was significantly associated with a reduced risk of AMD (P = 0.001, OR = 0.502, 95% CI = .335 to .752).
